In previous articles (“Cavitation” and “Hermeticity in control valves”) we have talked about the conditions and recommendations for better functioning of the control valve. On this occasion, we will address practices with these devices to avoid details in your process.
The main function of the control valve is to adjust the size of the flow channel in response to a signal issued by a controller, which is an integral element of a broader control system, which maintains parameters such as flow rate, temperature or pressure. The opening of the equipment can be completely open or closed, or in intermediate positions, it varies according to the characteristics and applications that we need in the process.
The type of valve most used for this purpose is the globe valve, although we also find other common examples of ball and butterfly type rotary valves. However, the choice between these teams depends on the specific conditions of your function. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the application characteristics and the particular conditions of your process to make an informed decision about what type of device is best suited to your needs.
We present the fundamental elements that you should consider to prevent risks:
- Pressure control: They are responsible for maintaining safe levels in systems and equipment.
- Flow regulation: The flow of fluids must be controlled to avoid overloads or discharges in the equipment, allowing the Cv to be adjusted to avoid damage to the pipes and systems, reducing the risk of failures or accidents.
- Temperature control: In applications where temperature is critical, control valves can regulate fluid flow to keep it in a safe range. This helps prevent overheating or excessive cooling situations.
- Overfill prevention: In tanks and reservoirs, control valves can prevent the maximum fill level from being exceeded, which could result in dangerous overflows.
- Backflow and water hammer protection: Control valves can mitigate the risks associated with backflow or water hammer in high-pressure systems, preventing damage to equipment and pipelines.
