A good alternative to reduce dependence on fossil fuels is to find other viable energies such as solar, wind and geothermal. In the previous article “Mexico and geothermal energy“, we talked about the countries that apply and have the operational capacity to generate this type of natural sources.
However, it is first important to discern between thermal and geothermal energy. The first generates energy by creating internal and random movement, that is, when many particles come together. “It is responsible for the states of aggregation of matter, since, at higher energy levels, greater agitation of the constituent particles of matter and less possibility that they share a limited space.” Instead, geothermal uses natural resources to produce electricity, such as the molten rocks that formed the Earth billions of years ago.
On the subject of particles, each one has specific characteristics based on its composition. In the liquid they are more energetic than those of a solid, while in the gas they are even more than those of the liquid. For example, when heating a solid (introducing thermal energy) we can convert it into a liquid and progressively into a gaseous state.
The loss or gain of thermal energy is what defines the heating or cooling of a body. The following scheme exemplifies the characteristics of thermal energy.

The design of a Geothermal plant is very particular and we must take into account three basic technologies: dry steam, flash steam and binary cycle. For this we must verify the selection of materials for our valves. Pressure reducing valves, globe, gate, butterfly and ball are the ones that are regularly used in these applications.
